powell ohio homes for salePowell, located in Delaware County and 14 miles North of Columbus Ohio, was settled around 1801, approximately two years before Ohio became a state. Originally called Middlebury, the name was changed to Powell in 1857 in honor of Judge Thomas Powell who established the first post office in the community. In 1947 Powell Ohio was incorporated as a municipality.

The population remained small until the late 1980s, when residential development expanding from the northern Columbus metropolitan area reached Powell, growing from a population of 400 to over 6,000 in twenty years.
